Buddhist Temple

Ngong Ping Village / HONG KONG

This Buddhist Temple is an ethereal, contemplative space that is part of an experience called ‘Walking with Buddha’.  Guests walk down a processional hallway toward a lighted translucent Buddha.  Along the way, they pick up a ‘Bodhi leaf’ with an inspirational message to present to Buddha as acknowledgement and understanding of his journey to enlightenment.

Ngong Ping 360 was part of a HK$1-billion cultural destination development and 5.7m cableway system located atop the picturesque hills of Lantau Island just west of Hong Kong.

Insights

This space was challenging because we needed to bring guests back to reality quickly after their experience in the Transforming Cave space. The solemn processional nature of the plan layout allows guests time to reflect and make their way to the interactive Buddha statue.
Clear resin as the material for this dramatic Buddha statue (approx. 10' tall) was a risk on many levels (fire code restrictions, un-tested production process), but the final product exceeded our expectations. The ethereal nature of the piece served as the perfect focal point in the space.
