Space Station

Wuhan Movie Park / CHINA

Located within the Wuhan Movie Park, a unique 860,000 SF indoor entertainment complex, the Star Journey attraction (16,000 sq. ft.) was one of (6) multi-dimensional experiences under one roof along with retail and restaurant spaces.

Guests enter the Space Station along a long metal ramp which leads to a futuristic Main Concourse with panoramic views of space through the skylight above.  From here, guests are guided through a series of rooms in the Space Station where they receive a crash course in space travel before boarding an advanced spacecraft (motion simulator) for their mission into space.

Insights

The panoramic skylight above the Entry Concourse was the key to selling the idea to guests that they were 'in space'. Measuring approx. 35' x 25', the transparent structure dominates the space and provides a window toward the moon and planets above.
Transparency through the attraction space was achieved via a series of giant futuristic portholes. These elements helped to visually expand the space even though the actual plan footprint was narrow in places. I've learned that the key to successful immersive environments is utilizing the tricks of visual perspective to your advantage.
