Water Park

Tidal Bay Resort & Entertainment Complex / CHINA

The design of this water-based resort amenity was informed by an epic transformation story that was created for the larger resort development.  Based on nature’s power to carve and shape landscapes, the planning and design evolved to suggest the excavation of an ancient civilization.

Working with FORREC from Toronto, Canada, we collaborated to design a Water Park using prehistoric fossil patterns as the inspiration and then elevated the landscape to showcase supernatural species that appear to have prospered in this surreal landscape.

Insights

The unique and complex form of the nautilus shell was the inspiration for the planning of this resort amenity. From a big picture standpoint, the shape of this 'living' fossil became the footprint for the pools at grade making them appear as if they were embedded in the landscape.
Our vision was to create a larger-than-life fantasy garden that sprung up as a result of the powerful Water Vortex that helped form the entire resort development. We visualized guests splashing, sliding and relaxing under giant flowers, their petals as shade cover throughout the outdoor area.
